One of the most common questions we receive from traders is: How many trading pairs should I use on my trading account?

Whether you are trading with our Hedge Scalper EA, Forex AI Trend EA, or Forex Correlation EA, selecting the right number of currency pairs is an important part of managing your trading account.

Should you trade only one pair? Is it better to trade 10 or even 20 pairs simultaneously? And which currency pairs should you combine to distribute your trading risk?

In this guide, we will explain everything you need to know about selecting trading pairs for your EA.

Why Do Our Forex EAs Support Only 20 Currency Pairs?

Our Forex EAs are specifically developed for currency trading and support approximately 20 selected Forex pairs.

These robots are not designed to trade Gold (XAUUSD), cryptocurrencies, indices, or other financial instruments.

Supported Currency Pairs

EURUSD USDJPY GBPUSD USDCHF AUDUSD USDCAD EURCHF EURGBP EURJPY EURCAD EURAUD GBPJPY GBPCHF GBPCAD GBPAUD AUDJPY AUDCHF AUDCAD CHFJPY CADJPY

Why Restrict Trading to Currency Pairs?

The strategies, calculations, and risk management systems of our robots are developed specifically for Forex currency pairs.

Instruments such as Gold and cryptocurrencies behave differently. Applying the same trading strategies to these instruments could introduce additional risks and potentially lead to unexpected losses.

i

Important: Our EAs are restricted to supported currency pairs. If you attach an EA to an unsupported instrument, it will not trade. This restriction is intentional.

However, just because an EA supports 20 currency pairs does not mean you should trade all 20 simultaneously.

How Many Trading Pairs Should You Use?

The ideal number of trading pairs primarily depends on your trading account balance and the risk settings you choose.

We provide an automatic set file generation system where traders can select the number of currency pairs according to their account balance and preferred settings.

However, our general recommendation is simple: avoid trading only one pair, but also avoid trading too many pairs simultaneously.

①

Why Avoid Only One Pair?

When you trade only one currency pair, your entire trading performance depends on how that particular pair behaves.

For example, if you trade only EURUSD and it enters an unfavorable market condition, your entire account may experience drawdown without other pairs contributing profits.

Trading multiple currency pairs allows your EA to find opportunities across different markets.

②

Why Avoid Too Many Pairs?

Trading more pairs does not automatically mean generating more profit.

Every additional currency pair can introduce new positions, increase margin requirements, and contribute to your account’s overall floating drawdown.

When too many pairs are active, several positions may experience drawdown simultaneously.

✓

Our Recommendation: Maintain a balance between diversification and the total number of active trading pairs. More pairs do not necessarily mean better trading performance.

Recommended Number of Trading Pairs Based on Account Balance

Based on our general trading recommendations, the following table illustrates how many currency pairs you can consider for different account balances.

Trading Account BalanceRecommended Trading Pairs
$1,0002–3 Pairs
$2,0003–4 Pairs
$3,000 – $5,0003–5 Pairs
Above $5,0004–6 Pairs
$10,000+6–8 Pairs
Our recommendation: Avoid trading more than 8 currency pairs simultaneously on a single trading account.

These are general guidelines rather than guaranteed safe limits. The appropriate number also depends on your lot sizes, leverage, margin availability, trading strategy, and selected risk settings.

If the EA Supports 20 Pairs, Why Not Trade All 20?

You might wonder why our EAs support approximately 20 currency pairs when we recommend trading no more than 8 pairs on a single account.

The answer is flexibility.

Our EAs can handle the supported currency pairs individually or simultaneously. However, trading all 20 pairs at once can increase your exposure and potentially lead to larger or more persistent drawdowns.

Instead of trading all available pairs on one account, you can distribute them across multiple trading accounts when appropriate.

Example: Three Different Trading Accounts

Suppose you have three trading accounts, each with a balance of $10,000.

Although separate accounts do not eliminate market correlation or overall portfolio risk, selecting different combinations can help reduce your dependence on exactly the same trading opportunities.

Which Currency Pair Combination Should You Use?

Selecting the right number of trading pairs is only half the process. Choosing the right combination is equally important.

Just as we recommend avoiding a single trading pair, we also recommend avoiding excessive exposure to a single currency.

Let’s compare two different combinations, each containing six currency pairs.

High USD Concentration

Combination 1

EURUSD GBPUSD AUDUSD USDJPY USDCHF USDCAD
Currency Exposure
USD
6
EUR
1
GBP
1
Other
1*

The problem: Every single pair contains USD. Your account is heavily exposed to movements in the US dollar.

A major USD movement could affect all six pairs simultaneously, although their directions and magnitudes may differ.

*Each of AUD, JPY, CHF and CAD appears once.

Broader Currency Distribution

Combination 2

EURUSD EURAUD GBPJPY GBPUSD GBPCHF USDCAD
Currency Exposure
USD
3
EUR
2
GBP
3
Other
1*

The advantage: Exposure is distributed across several currencies rather than concentrating every trading pair on USD.

A significant movement in one currency will not necessarily affect all six pairs in the same way.

*Each of AUD, JPY, CHF and CAD appears once.

✓

The important lesson: Do not select currency pairs based only on quantity. Pay attention to which currencies are included in your selected pairs and avoid unnecessary concentration.

Currency pairs can still be correlated even when they contain different currencies. Diversification does not guarantee protection against drawdown, but distributing exposure is a useful starting point when building your trading combination.

Should You Follow the Currency Pairs Suggested by Our Set File System?

When you generate your trading settings using our automatic set file system, it suggests currency pairs according to your selected configuration.

We recommend following those suggestions, particularly if you are unfamiliar with selecting currency pair combinations.

However, using exactly the same suggested currency pairs is not compulsory.

01

Select Your Account Settings

Open the set file generator and choose your trading account balance, settings, and preferred number of trading pairs.

02

Review Suggested Currency Pairs

The system will suggest a combination of supported currency pairs according to your selected configuration.

03

Customize Your Combination

You may select your own combination using the diversification principles explained in this guide.

04

Maintain the Selected Pair Count

Always use the same number of trading pairs that you selected during set file generation.

One Important Rule: Keep the Same Number of Trading Pairs

While you can change the suggested currency pair combination, you should maintain the same number of pairs selected during set file generation.

For example, if you generate a set file for 4 trading pairs, you should use that configuration on exactly 4 pairs.

3 Pairs ✕ Not Recommended
4 Pairs ✓ Correct Configuration
5 Pairs ✕ Not Recommended

Changing the number of pairs can alter your account’s overall exposure and risk distribution. If you decide to increase or decrease the number of pairs, generate a new set file according to your updated requirements.

How Many Forex Pairs Should You Trade?

Choosing the right number of trading pairs is an important part of using any Forex EA.

Our Hedge Scalper EA, Forex AI Trend EA, and Forex Correlation EA support approximately 20 currency pairs, but this does not mean you need to trade all of them simultaneously.

Depending on your account balance and selected risk settings, we generally recommend trading between 2 and 8 currency pairs.

Three Important Things to Remember

✓

Avoid relying on a single currency pair. Distribute your trading opportunities across multiple supported currency pairs.

✓

Avoid trading too many pairs simultaneously. More active pairs can increase your overall exposure, margin requirements, and drawdown.

✓

Select a balanced currency combination. Avoid concentrating all your trading pairs on one currency, and maintain the pair count selected during set file generation.
